This primitive, trail climbs through forest and muskeg and a historic mining area before reaching two lakes and descending back to sea level. This trail goes around Takanis Lake for two miles before entering the West Chichagof-Yakobi Wilderness Area and dropping down another mile to Takanis Bay, completing a short cross-island traverse. This trail climbs through forest and muskeg and a historic mining area before reaching two lakes and descending back to sea level. To get to Takanis Lakes Trail, start at Lisianski Straits – Bohemia Basin trail and follow the first two miles through a rough gravel road that passes through muskeg meadows along Bohemia Creek and continue south to an old mining area. As the old “road” turns south, the primitive trail continues east over a low divide to Upper Takanis Lake. The trail continues another mile to Takanis Lake.
