Paddling and Portaging
This canoe route passes through scenic wilderness and over lakes and rivers to Thorne Bay. A U.S. Forest Service public use rental cabin is located an estimated 7-8 hours of upstream paddling and portaging from the put-in.
30 miles one way, including first seven miles paddling against current and 3.5 miles of portages.
500 foot elevation change
This is a challenging and strenuous route. There are many obstacles including low water levels, difficult footing over some portage areas, swift rapids, and log jams. For more information consult U.S. Forest Service Honker Divide page and GORP for a detailed route description.
Put in at the signed Honker Divide Canoe Launch on Forest Road 30, about 10 miles south of Coffman Cove. Take out at the public boat dock in Thorne Bay.
