Southeast Alaska Travel Basics

Southeast Alaska is a beautiful and unique area that belongs to everyone. Most of the SEAtrails system is part of the Tongass National Forest and the Admiralty Island National Monument, all public lands administered by the U.S. Forest Service. Glacier Bay, the Chilkoot Trail, part of Skagway and a small historical park in Sitka are National Park Service areas. The northwestern part of Southeast Alaska is mostly administered by the state or by a city and borough.

Getting Around Southeast

As most SEAtrails communities are not connected to an external road system, traveling to and around the region requires an understanding of available transportation options.
